EFos Training
The Engagement Fundraising Operating System: a donor-driven discipline for raising major and legacy gifts, delivered by a signed EFos consultant.
What EFos is
The Engagement Fundraising Operating System (EFos) was developed by Greg Warner, founder of MarketSmart and author of Engagement Fundraising. It's a complete operating system for major and legacy gift programs, grounded in a simple truth backed by decades of donor research: people give when the timing is right for them, to causes they feel connected to, in ways that bring meaning to their lives. Fundraising built around organizational deadlines and arm-twisting doesn't just feel bad. It underperforms.
EFos replaces the transactional grind with a system: disciplined qualification so gift officers spend time with the right supporters, engagement built around each donor's motivations and timing, and an operating rhythm with metrics that reward relationship value instead of activity counts.
Cairn Philanthropy's principal is a signed EFos consultant, authorized to train teams and support installations, and he has run the system inside a live development operation rather than only teaching it.
Who it's for
- Development teams whose major gift program has plateaued, or that are staffing caseloads with activity quotas and getting churn instead of gifts.
- Executives and boards who sense the old approach isn't working but need a credible alternative before they'll change.
- Organizations serious about legacy giving, where donor timing and trust decide everything.
What changes when it's installed
- Qualification discipline: caseloads built from evidence of capacity and connection, not wishful lists.
- Donor-driven engagement: outreach that delivers value to the supporter first, so meetings happen because donors want them.
- Timing respect: systems that surface when a donor is ready instead of asking when the fiscal year demands.
- An operating rhythm: the meetings, metrics, and accountability that keep the system running after the training ends.
